Bousfield Primary School

Science

At Bousfield, science is an exciting, hands-on journey of discovery that helps pupils explore the world around them. We aim to inspire curiosity, develop investigative skills, and foster a deep understanding of scientific concepts across biology, chemistry and physics.

Our lessons are practical and enquiry-based, giving children the opportunity to observe, test and experiment. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, and draw conclusions, developing the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that underpin scientific understanding.

Science at Bousfield is closely linked to the world outside the classroom. Our Forest School, school allotment and beehives provide rich, real-life contexts for learning. Children explore plants, animals and ecosystems, study growth and life cycles, and witness science in action, making learning tangible, memorable and meaningful.

We emphasise the importance of scientific vocabulary, reasoning and explanation, ensuring that children can communicate their ideas clearly and accurately. Practical investigations are combined with opportunities to record findings, interpret data and make connections across different areas of science.

Through all of this, we celebrate the wonder and fascination of science, from the patterns in nature to the marvels of the universe. We want our pupils to see science as a subject to enjoy, explore and take pride in, building confidence to ask questions and seek answers throughout their lives.

Our ultimate aim is that every child leaves Bousfield as a curious, knowledgeable and confident young scientist, equipped to continue their learning journey and engage with the natural and technological world with understanding and awe.
