Religious Education
At Bousfield, Religious Education (RE) provides pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills to explore a wide range of beliefs, values and practices. Our aim is to nurture spirituality, empathy and curiosity, helping children make sense of their own experiences while understanding those of others.
We follow a multi-faith approach, ensuring that children learn about diverse world religions and belief systems. Our curriculum is carefully planned to follow the guidance of our local authority SACRE and aligns closely with the Hampshire scheme of work, providing a clear progression of knowledge and understanding across each year group.
Our curriculum has been designed with the support of faith leaders and RE specialists, ensuring accuracy, sensitivity and depth. Learning is enriched through visits, workshops and visitors, allowing pupils to experience places of worship, hear first-hand accounts of faith practices, and explore ideas of justice, charity, community and moral responsibility in real-world contexts.
Lessons encourage children to ask questions, reflect on their own values, and discuss moral and ethical issues respectfully. Pupils develop the skills to engage thoughtfully with diverse worldviews, considering how beliefs and values shape decisions and actions, and fostering a sense of responsibility, compassion and social awareness.
Our ultimate aim is that every child leaves Bousfield with a well-rounded understanding of religion, spirituality and moral values, prepared to engage respectfully and thoughtfully with the world around them.
Parents who wish to exercise their right to withdraw their child from Religious Education should contact the headteacher. We do not recommend withdrawal, as RE helps children understand a range of world views and promotes respect for all beliefs without advocating any particular faith.
