Pupil Wellbeing

Pupil Wellbeing at Bousfield

At Bousfield, children’s wellbeing is central to school life. We want every child to feel safe, valued, and ready to learn, and we provide a nurturing environment that supports their emotional, social, and physical development.

Supporting Emotional and Social Wellbeing

Through our values-led assemblies, PSHE/RHE curriculum, and the MindUp programme, children learn about relationships, respect, kindness, and emotional regulation. Daily mindfulness, wellbeing journals, and our staffed Regulation Station give pupils regular opportunities to pause, reflect, and ask for support when they need it.

We also teach pupils how to stay safe online and offline, make healthy choices, and understand personal boundaries. Physical health is promoted through PE, sport, outdoor learning, and lots of active play.

A Welcoming, Inclusive Community

We ensure every child feels a strong sense of belonging. Our induction processes support new pupils, and we celebrate the diversity of our community through festivals, assemblies, and links with local organisations. Children learn about different cultures and beliefs and are taught to value and respect others.

Enrichment and Wider Experiences

Wellbeing is strengthened through rich, hands-on opportunities. Pupils take part in forest school, eco projects, outdoor cooking, caring for animals, creative arts, music, dance, and school performances. Residentials, team-building activities, and curriculum visits help build confidence and resilience. All pupils, including those with SEND or other barriers, are supported to take part fully.

Pastoral Care When It’s Needed

Our pastoral team works closely with staff, families, and external professionals to provide tailored support. This includes ELSA provision, therapeutic support, attendance guidance, and individual plans for children who need extra help. Pupils know whom to approach and trust the adults who are there to support them.

Preparing for the Future

Transitions between year groups and key stages are carefully managed, with enhanced support for pupils who need it. Children learn about different roles and workplaces, set personal goals, and take part in small-group activities that build teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is woven through all aspects of school life. Our staff are vigilant, well-trained, and committed to keeping children safe. We work closely with families and external agencies to protect pupils, provide early help, and promote their welfare.
