PSHE
At Bousfield, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) helps children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead healthy, safe and fulfilling lives. Through a carefully planned spiral curriculum, pupils revisit and build upon their learning about relationships, physical and mental wellbeing, growing and changing, and their responsibilities within the wider world.
Our approach is rooted in our school rules, Ready, Respectful, Safe and Collaborative, and our commitment to ensuring that every child feels known, valued and included. Children are encouraged to recognise and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, respect difference and develop the confidence to make informed choices.
PSHE is taught through dedicated lessons, assemblies and opportunities across school life. Assessment helps us identify gaps in understanding and adapt our teaching, ensuring that all children are equipped with the knowledge they need to stay safe and make informed decisions. We create a safe, respectful environment where pupils can ask questions, explore different perspectives and develop the language to express their thoughts and feelings.
Our curriculum is further enriched through whole-school events such as Anti-Bullying Week and Children’s Mental Health Week, which provide opportunities to explore important themes in greater depth. We also work closely with families, offering parent workshops where relevant to support shared understanding and help parents continue important conversations at home.
Through PSHE, we aim to equip children not only for the next stage of their education, but for life beyond Bousfield, helping them to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.
