At Bousfield, we believe that play is essential for children’s learning, wellbeing, and development. That is why we follow the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) approach, transforming our playground into an exciting, stimulating space where children can explore, take risks, and develop independence.
Through OPAL, our pupils engage in imaginative play, creative problem-solving, and physical activity every day. From drama and dressing up, sand and water play, and the mud kitchen to the percussion wall, quiet social spaces, and the scooter zone, OPAL encourages curiosity, resilience, and teamwork in a safe, supportive environment.
We know that children learn best when they are happy, active, and challenged both inside and outside the classroom. OPAL allows them to discover, experiment, and grow in ways that traditional playtimes cannot always offer.
