Music
At [School Name], music is given high priority and every pupil has the chance to explore a wide range of sounds, styles, and instruments. EYFS children receive 30 minutes of weekly music taught by the headteacher, including nursery rhymes, percussion, singing, and drama. Pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 have at least one hour of music each week, supported by whole-class instrumental lessons using Groove and Play, and weekly singing assemblies feature a Music of the Week to introduce different styles, composers, and cultures.
Children can learn guitar, cello, violin, or piano through peripatetic lessons, with places funded for pupil premium pupils, and can take part in our free school choir, string ensemble, and drumming club. Partnerships with organisations such as Odyssey Festival Orchestra provide workshops and performance opportunities, and we publicise other external opportunities, including Holland Park Youth Chorus.
Throughout the year, pupils perform in assemblies, termly concerts, the spring concert, and winter and summer plays, and they also enjoy live professional performances. All events are inclusive and subsidised where needed, giving every child the chance to sing, play, and enjoy music, developing confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music.
