Computing

At Bousfield, Computing equips children with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. From Reception onwards, pupils benefit from weekly lessons in our dedicated computer suite, where they develop their understanding of technology through hands-on learning. In addition, Chromebooks and tablets are used across the curriculum where technology can enhance learning and support children in achieving their best. We also recognise the important role technology can play in promoting inclusion, using appropriate digital tools to help pupils access learning and develop independence.

Our Computing curriculum is informed by nationally recognised expertise and research in computing education and provides a carefully sequenced progression of knowledge and skills from the Early Years through to Year 6. Children learn about programming, data and digital media, creating a wide range of projects including animations, photography, audio recordings, videos, websites and three-dimensional designs. As they move through the school, pupils explore increasingly sophisticated technologies and develop the logical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills that underpin successful computing.

We recognise that helping children navigate the online world safely is one of the most important aspects of modern education. Online safety is taught throughout the school and woven through our Computing curriculum, helping children to understand topics such as privacy, digital footprints, responsible communication and respectful online behaviour. We work closely with parents to encourage safe and positive use of technology both at school and at home.

Technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace, and we regularly review and refine our curriculum to ensure that children develop the knowledge and skills they need for the future. Our aim is that every child leaves Bousfield as a confident, responsible and discerning user of technology, prepared for the opportunities and challenges of the digital world.
