Mathematics equips children with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. Children are involved in a broad range of activities in order to learn mathematical concepts and develop numeracy. They are given practical experience, investigative tasks, regular practice and memorisation of mathematical facts and procedures to develop mental skills.

The Mathematics Mastery approach is used to teach children in Reception to Year 5. The children use objects and pictures to demonstrate and visualise abstract ideas, alongside numbers and symbols. Mathematical concepts are explored in a variety of contexts to give pupils a richer and deeper learning experience. In addition to daily maths lessons, classes also have a ‘Maths Meeting’. The children learn the days of the week, months of the year, how to tell the time and other key mathematical knowledge appropriate to their year group.
