Geography

We believe that Geography helps to provoke and answer questions about the natural and human world, encouraging children to develop a greater understanding of the world and their place in it. We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives; to promote children’s interest and understanding about diverse places, people, resources and the natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical features and human processes.

We aim to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as they learn to be responsible, informed and caring global citizens.

Through our Geography curriculum, children develop knowledge of places and environments throughout the world, an understanding of maps and a range of investigative and problem-solving skills.

The school uses the immediate local area, as well as London’s rich geographical resources, to extend children’s knowledge and experience, and deepen their learning. Year 5 have the opportunity to attend a residential centre where much of the focus is Geography and in particular, map reading skills, a river study and comparing village life with city life.

Links are made with other areas of the curriculum in order to further children’s knowledge and deepen their understanding.
