What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness involves training our attention to experience the present moment with greater curiosity and consciousness. This helps us not only to appreciate what is going well, but to respond more skilfully to life’s inevitable challenges.

A particular focus is how our words and actions can affect others. Think “Choose kind”, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, and “What is hurtful to you, do not do to any other person”.

The children explore some of the following themes:  happiness, kindness, courage, resilience, the power of thought, compassion, self-esteem, emotional self-regulation and dealing with stress and conflict.

What is Wellbeing?

Wellbeing is the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy.  Connecting with others, being active, taking notice of the world around us, learning and helping others are all ways to promote wellbeing.

The children learn about some wellbeing techniques including breathing, meditation, yoga, Tai-Chi and relaxation.
